Armstrong Massey Rally Management Car Instructions 2000

At all times, Management Cars are required to operate in accordance with these instructions and display the management plate in an obvious place on the front of the vehicle (preferably at the top of the windscreen behind the rear-view mirror). These instructions will specifically define the route to be followed and the areas in which emergency servicing is permitted. Alternative routes and servicing in all other areas is prohibited. Emergency servicing may only be provided in a place of safety which will not cause a nuisance to other members of the public. When waiting for your rally car to emerge from either a stage or any other area prohibited to you, Management Cars are required to wait at least 50 metres from the relevant exit or junction.

Please remember that you are not above the law. Observe all speed limits whilst on the public highway and the 15 mph limit whilst on Breighton and Elvington Airfields. Humberside Police have informed us that they will be 'taking an active interest in the event'. Should we receive any official complaints about the standards of driving from management cars or service vehicles, or any other activity likely to bring the name of the event into disrepute, then these vehicles will be deemed to not be following these instructions. Failure to follow these instructions is likely to result in the exclusion of your competing crew. A Judge of Fact team will be observing for infringements.

A. Armstrong Massey (Start) to Elvington (SS1/2)

  1. Leave the start area, turn left at the mini roundabout and then right on to the A64 towards York. Caution! Take extreme care when making the turn as there is very fast traffic from both directions. DO NOT TAKE RISKS!
  2. Continue on the A64 ignoring the turnoffs for A1237, A1036 and A19. Servicing IS only permitted in the laybys.
  3. After 8.33 miles, come off the A64 - signposted A1079 Hull.
  4. At the roundabout, stay in the right lane for the first 3 sets of traffic lights, then switch to left lane for the fourth set to come off on to the A1079 towards Hull.
  5. Continue on the A1079 ignoring the B1228 turn to Elvington. Servicing IS only permitted in the layby and at the petrol station.
  6. After 1.55 miles, turn right opposite the 'Cost Cutter' Petrol Station. Servicing IS permitted from here.
  7. At the T junction turn left. Servicing is NOT permitted from here.
  8. After 1.04 miles, turn right - signposted Air Museum (arrowed).
  9. After 0.1 miles, turn right in to Whitley Road and then right again to turn in through the airfield gates. Caution! Two way rally traffic using a single width access road. PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU ARE RIGHT BEHIND YOUR RALLY CAR AND ENTER THE VENUE TOGETHER. VEHICLES ENTERING THE VENUE HAVE PRIORITY!
  10. Follow the arrows to the Emergency Service Area on the runway and park next to the grass on the right hand side furthest from the stage. Do not block access to/from the stage. Emergency Service IS permitted in the Emergency Service Area before, between and after the stages although no additional time is allocated for this activity.

B. Elvington (SS1/2) to Melbourne (SS3/4)

  1. Leave Elvington via the same gate through which you entered the venue. Caution! Two way rally traffic using a single width access road. Servicing is NOT permitted from here. PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU ARE RIGHT BEHIND YOUR RALLY CAR AND EXIT THE VENUE TOGETHER. GIVE WAY TO VEHICLES ENTERING THE VENUE!
  2. As you leave the gate aim left and then turn left at the junction.
  3. At the T junction turn right on to the B1228 towards Elvington village. Servicing IS only permitted at the Texaco Petrol Station.
  4. Continue on the B1228 through Elvington village, over the bridge and through Sutton-upon-Derwent. Servicing IS permitted after Sutton-upon-Derwent.
  5. After a further 1.94 miles, turn right to stay on the B1228 - signposted Howden. Servicing is NOT permitted from here.
  6. After 1.22 miles, turn left at the crossroads - signposted Seaton Ross. QUIET AT THE CROSSROADS - VERY P.R. SENSITIVE!
  7. Continue for 2.04 miles to the stage entrance on the right. Servicing IS permitted following the first junction on the left (after 0.5 miles) until the stage entrance.
  8. After the rally car has turned in to the stage entrance, continue for 0.6 miles to wait towards the stage exit. Remember not to wait within 50 metres of either the stage exit or any houses. Servicing IS permitted on the road between SS3 and SS4.
  9. Once the rally car has done SS3 and returned to the start to do SS4, Management Cars should continue past the stage exit and then wait on the other side for the rally car to re-emerge.

C. Melbourne (SS3/4) to Service A and Gunby (SS5/6)

  1. The rally car will turn right on exiting the stage and rejoin you. Servicing IS permitted until the next junction.
  2. At the junction turn right and enter Seaton Ross.
  3. After 0.25 miles, turn right - signposted Laytham. Servicing IS permitted from the de-restricted signs.
  4. After 2.2 miles, turn left at the T junction - signposted Foggathorpe. Servicing is NOT permitted from here.
  5. After 1.34 miles, turn right at the cross-roads - signposted Selby A163. Servicing IS permitted after Foggathorpe Village until the 40mph signs at Highfield cross-roads.
  6. After 2 miles, turn left at the crossroads – signposted B1228 Howden, Goole. Servicing is NOT permitted from here.
  7. Continue for another 0.89 miles and then turn right – signposted Breighton Airfield. Servicing IS permitted from here.
  8. Continue at 15mph for 0.25 miles to enter the Service Area (20 mins). Servicing IS permitted before, between and after SS5/6.

D. Gunby (SS5/6) to Skillings (SS7/8)

  1. Leave the Service Area and continue back to the road (15mph).
  2. At the road, turn right on to the B1228. Servicing is NOT permitted from here.
  3. Continue for 4.6 miles, over the level crossing, and into Howden.
  4. At the T junction, turn left - signposted Hull, Goole A63.
  5. Follow the road around to the left - signposted Hull A63.
  6. At the roundabout, go straight on (2nd exit) - signposted B1230 Beverley, Hull. Servicing IS permitted at the petrol station and from the roundabout until Gilberdyke.
  7. Continue on this road for 7.5 miles through Gilberdyke and Newport. Servicing IS permitted at petrol stations and from the roundabout until Gilberdyke.
  8. At the T junction, turn right - signposted Beverley B1230. DO NOT TURN LEFT - THIS IS THE M62 MOTORWAY!
  9. Cross the motorway bridge and immediately turn right on to the dual carriageway - signposted Hull A63.
  10. Servicing IS only permitted in the laybys or at Petrol Stations.
  11. Pass two petrol stations on the left and then take the first exit - signposted South Cave A1034.
  12. At the T junction, turn right - signposted Ellerker, Elloughton, Brough.
  13. Cross the dual carriageway again and follow the signs for Elloughton and Brough. (The route will be arrowed here). Take care crossing the west-bound A63 sliproad as vehicles approach at speed. Servicing IS permitted from here.
  14. Continue for 1.4 miles to the roundabout and take the 2nd exit - signposted Brough. Servicing is NOT permitted from here.
  15. At the mini-roundabout by Barclays Bank, turn left (1st exit).
  16. At the traffic lights, turn right - signposted Aircraft Factory, Brough Haven.
  17. Cross the level crossing and, 150 metres later, turn left at the sharp corner and be prepared to stop at the gate for a security check.
  18. Once you have been authorised by BAE SYSTEMS Security, go straight ahead (between the hedges) to the mini-roundabout.
  19. At the mini-roundabout, turn right and then curve around to the right. Travel approximately 50 metres and then turn left on to the old runway (now marked out as a car park).
  20. Emergency Servicing IS only permitted in a marked car park slot before, between and after the stages. Five minutes has been added to the road timing for tyre changing after SS8.

E. Skillings (SS 7/8) to Beacon (SS9).

  1. Leave the runway car park by turning right and re-trace your steps back to the entrance gate. Servicing is NOT permitted from here.
  2. Exit the site through the gate and continue straight on, heading west.
  3. After 0.28 miles, take care on the sharp, narrow corner and then on the narrow railway bridge.
  4. At Barclays Bank mini-roundabout, exit at eleven o'clock (1st exit).
  5. At the next roundabout, turn right (2nd exit) - signposted Elloughton.
  6. After 0.7 miles, at the staggered cross-roads by the Half Moon Pub, turn left - signposted Brantingham.
  7. After 0.48 miles, the rally cars will turn left and enter Brantingham Park to visit a passage control. Management Vehicles should continue past the junction and wait for their rally car to re-emerge. Servicing IS permitted from here.
  8. Continue for 0.37 miles and then turn left as the road bends right.
  9. At the T junction, turn right – signposted Ellerker.
  10. Pass the cross-roads, and continue until the major junction. Taking extreme care at the junction, go straight ahead and on to the A63 dual carriageway - signposted (M62), A63 Leeds, (A614) Goole. Beware, this is an accident blackspot with fast traffic from both directions and difficult visibility to the right!! Servicing IS only permitted in the laybys and petrol stations from here.
  11. At the T junction, turn right - signposted B1230 Beverley. Servicing is NOT permitted from here.
  12. At the second T junction, turn right - signposted Beverley B1230. DO NOT TURN LEFT - THIS IS THE M62 MOTORWAY!
  13. Cross the motorway bridge and continue straight on for 1.1 miles until just after the 30mph signs, then turn left into 'Townend Road'.
  14. Curve around to the left at the cross-roads - signposted South Cliffe, North Cliffe.
  15. Pass through South Cliffe and then at North Cliffe, 0.64 miles later, turn left – signposted Holme-upon-Spalding-Moor. Servicing IS permitted from here.
  16. Curve around to the left again, 0.13 miles later - signposted Holme-upon-Spalding-Moor.
  17. After 2.9 miles the rally cars will turn left and enter the stage. Management Vehicles are to continue to the T junction and turn left - signposted A614, Holme-upon-Spalding-Moor.
  18. Continue along the A614. Under no circumstances may you wait near the stage exit or climb the hill towards the church.
  19. At the mini-roundabout, turn right (2nd exit) - signposted Selby, Bubwith A163. You may then wait for your rally car wherever it is safe to do so. Servicing is NOT permitted within Holme-upon-Spalding-Moor.

F. Beacon (SS9) to Service B and Gunby (SS 10/11)

  1. Once your rally car has re-joined you, continue on the A163. Servicing IS permitted from the de-restricted signs until the 40 mph signs but not in Foggathorpe village.
  2. After a further 4.75 miles, turn left at the crossroads - signposted B1228 Howden, Goole. Servicing is NOT permitted from here.
  3. Continue for another 0.75 miles and then turn right - signposted Breighton Airfield. Servicing IS permitted from here.
  4. Continue at 15mph for 0.25 miles to enter the Service Area. This is the Lunch Halt (40 mins). Servicing IS permitted before, between and after SS10/11.

G. Gunby (SS 10/11) to Melbourne (SS 12/13)

  1. Leave service and turn left on to the B1228. Servicing is NOT permitted from here.
  2. At the cross-roads, turn right - signposted Holme-upon-Spalding-Moor A163. Servicing IS permitted once you are past the de-restricted signs.
  3. After 2 miles, turn left at Foggathorpe crossroads - signposted Laytham.
  4. After 0.8 miles, the road bends sharp left. Servicing is NOT permitted from here.
  5. After 0.3 miles, ignore the road on the left and curve around to the right - signposted Melbourne.
  6. After 0.16 miles, enter Laytham, ignore the road on the left and then take the next road on the right - signposted Seaton Ross. Servicing IS permitted from here.
  7. Caution: the first left-hand bend on this road tightens dramatically.
  8. After 2.1 miles, enter Seaton Ross and then turn left at the junction - signposted Pocklington. Servicing is NOT permitted after the 30mph signs.
  9. After 0.3 miles, immediately after the de-restricted signs, turn left - signposted Melbourne Airfield. Servicing IS permitted from here.
  10. After 0.3 miles, the rally car will turn left in to the stage entrance. Management Cars must continue past the junction and should wait towards the stage exit. Remember not to wait within 50 metres of either the stage exit or any houses. Servicing IS permitted on the road between SS12 and SS13.
  11. Once the rally car has done SS12 and returned to the start to do SS13, Management Cars should continue past the stage exit and then wait on the other side for the rally car to re-emerge.

H. Melbourne (SS 12/13) to Elvington (SS 14/15)

  1. The rally car will turn left on exiting the stage and rejoin you. Continue for 2 miles until the cross-roads at the B1228. Servicing IS permitted from the stage exit until the second road on the left after 1.5 miles.
  2. At the cross-roads, turn right - signposted York B1228. QUIET AT THE CROSSROADS - VERY P.R. SENSITIVE!
  3. After 1.2 miles, turn left - signposted York B1228. Servicing IS permitted from here.
  4. Continue on the B1228 for 6.6 miles through Sutton-upon-Derwent and Elvington villages. Servicing is NOT permitted after the 30 limit signs for Sutton-upon-Derwent with the exception of the petrol station at Elvington.
  5. After Elvington village, continue for a further 0.9 miles and then turn left - signposted Air Museum (arrowed).
  6. After 0.1 miles, turn right in to Whitley Road and then right again to turn in through the airfield gates. Caution! Two way rally traffic using a single width access road.   2. As you leave the gate aim left and then turn left at the junction.
  3. At the T junction turn right on to the B1228 towards Elvington village. Servicing IS only permitted at the Texaco Petrol Station.

  7. Continue on the B1228 for 4.75 miles. Care! There is a deceptive junction after 1.9 miles when the B1228 bends to the left and a minor road goes straight on. Servicing IS permitted after this junction until the 40mph signs.
  8. At the cross-roads with the A163, go straight on - signposted Howden, Goole B1228.
  9. Continue for another 0.75 miles and then turn right – signposted Breighton Airfield. Servicing IS permitted from here.
  10. Continue at 15mph for 0.25 miles to enter the Service Area (20 mins).

J. Service C to Beacon (SS 16)

  1. Leave service and turn left on to the B1228. Servicing is NOT permitted from here.
  2. At the cross-roads, turn right - signposted Holme-upon-Spalding-Moor A163.
  3. Servicing IS permitted for 4.2 miles until the side road from Arglam joins the A163.
  4. At the mini-roundabout, turn left (1st exit) - signposted Bridlington A614.
  5. Continue on the A614 for another 1.6 miles passing the stage entrance on the right. All cars have to continue to the roundabout and return to avoid a right turn across oncoming traffic.
  6. Management cars are prohibited from climbing Church Hill towards the Beacon stage start.
  7. At the roundabout, do a 180 degree turn (3rd exit) - Holme-upon-Spalding-Moor A614.
  8. After 0.3 miles (after the cafe), turn left - signposted North Cliffe, South Cliffe. Rally cars will continue back to the stage entrance.
  9. The exit from the stage is on the right after 0.3 miles. Do NOT park within 50 metres of the stage exit.

K. Beacon (SS16) to Skillings (SS 17/18)

  1. Rally cars exit the stage and turn right towards North Cliffe. Servicing IS permitted from here.
  2. Continue for 2.88 miles, curve right at the first junction and then turn right - signposted North Cave. Servicing is NOT permitted from here.
  3. Continue straight on for 2.85 miles and then take care at the sharp left bend.
  4. After a further 0.13 miles, curve round to the right at the cross-roads.
  5. At the T junction, turn right - signposted Motorway (M62), Goole (A614).
  6. After 1 mile, turn left on to the dual carriageway - signposted Hull A63.
  7. Servicing IS only permitted in the laybys or at Petrol Stations.
  8. Pass two petrol stations on the left and then take the first exit - signposted South Cave A1034.
  9. At the T junction, turn right - signposted Ellerker, Elloughton, Brough.
  10. Cross the dual carriageway and follow the signs for Elloughton and Brough (The route will be arrowed here). Take care crossing the west-bound A63 sliproad as vehicles approach at speed. Servicing IS permitted from here.

  15. Once you have been authorised by BAE SYSTEMS Security, go straight ahead (between the hedges) to the mini-roundabout.

L. Skillings (SS 17/18) to Brantingham Park (Finish)

  1. Leave the runway car park by turning right and re-trace your steps back to the entrance gate. Servicing is NOT permitted from here.
  2. Exit the site through the gate and continue straight on heading west.
  3. After 0.28 miles, take care on the sharp, narrow corner and then on the narrow railway bridge.
  4. At Barclays Bank mini-roundabout, exit at eleven o'clock (1st exit).
  5. At the next roundabout, exit at eleven o'clock (1st exit) - signposted (A1034) Market Weighton.
  6. After 0.35 miles, turn right - signposted Brantingham. Servicing IS permitted from here.
  7. At the T junction, turn right - signposted Elloughton.
  8. After 0.4 miles, take the first entrance on the right into Brantingham Park - Home of Hull Ionians Rugby Club.
  9. Park as directed. If the car park is full, return to the road and park safely on the verge.
