Cracking Mag again this month! The ever faithful Petchy and Matt Blood coming up with the goods yet again. Watch out for Petchy’s alternative Armstrong Massey Rally!

Thanks to Potts for top billing last month following my (less than) subtle comments. Didn’t think he read the stuff before printing it out.

Heepy continues to be fettled following his rebuild. A new hydraulic clutch flexy pipe has been fitted in an attempt to combat the ‘Wet Mince’ effect. The suspension had to be slightly lowered as the ride height was higher than before. I decided that the ultimate set-up would be to load the driver’s seat with my equivalent weight, 11 stone, and then set the ride height level. Looks odd when empty, but should be perfect during competition. Yes, I’ve had all the cracks about my weight. You bring the scales, I’ll stand on ‘em, just so long as you do too!

The Larkspeed autotest (report to be found in this copy) did have a humorous side involving John Taylor & Shorty. As reported, it was a fiercely hot day requiring much sun-tan cream as we were out in it all day. Trouble is, when driving through your own dust, it tends to stick to the sun-cream. By the end of the day everyone was covered in rubber dust and whatever else has drifted into the car. The sight of J T and Shorty, along with Shorty’s lad, was priceless! Black faces all round plus all other exposed skin (shorts were de rigueur on the day). Unfortunately my jokes about J T and Shorty backfired when I arrived home and rushed in just in time to catch the start of the Canadian GP. I was not allowed to sit down ‘til a sheet had been spread over the settee. I remember scratching my leg during the race then noticing the black under my nail afterwards. The bathwater was something to behold later that night! Yuk!

The Club is currently lying 7th in the Larkspeed League Championship. The last event is an autotest on 10 September which I intend to compete on. We desperately need others to do the event and score more points to keep us ahead and in the top 10. You will score points just by competing and it’s a very cheap day’s sport if you share an ‘acquired’ car for the day (see me and I’ll tell you how). The tests will be simple, Larkspeed one’s usually are, and I’ll be happy to give guidance on the day if you need it. Please try to do the event, you’ll even get money for it at the year end shareout.

Howie.
