Long Course Sprint

Sheffield & Hallamshire MC

Our (currently) lone Sprint competitor attended another event at this popular venue. Jon Meacock waxes lyrical over the sport. He compares it to a qualifying session in circuit racing.

Walking the track, as with some other events, seems good sense, not to mention the exercise! An entry of 64 must say something for the sport.

Jon’s practice runs were on a predominantly drying tarmac track which made for some difficult driving. On this particular event two laps of the circuit would count for each run. One of his fellow competitors convinced Jon that a particular section should be taken ‘flat’. Unfortunately Jon attempted this on one of his 3 timed runs only to suffer a 180° spin onto the unforgiving grass. All four wheels off the circuit disallows that run. Tough rules.

Jon admits his 2nd in class result was diluted by the fact that there were only two in his class! However, he took some comfort in whupping the bottom off someone in another class with a much higher (if slightly illegal) spec VW Golf than Jon’s. Above all that, he had a cracking days sport.

Sheffield & Hallamshire put on an outstanding event according to Jon. He’s hooked.

Howie.
