Hell doesn’t time fly! third copy already. you don’t suppose Pott’s would put my editorial at the front do you? Oh well, dream on.
Still lots of stuff coming in for the Mag. More from our Roving Reporter Petchy on the recent Danum Road Rally which saw 3 1/2 Beverley crews competing (we’ll get Gav Smith to enter under Beverley one day). Repeated this month is the excellent 12 Car report by Petchy which was not printed in its entirety due to an error on my part. Apologies to him for that.
The popular Photo Page didn’t materialise this month, but has been replaced by a new article which should be as equally embarrassing to certain club members.
The month’s ‘window’ I allowed for Roy and myself to transfer Heepy into the new shell went somewhat awry. The King Brother’s Autotest on 28 May was to have been the first event in the new shell, but that weekend saw us still screwing bits on and putting the engine back in following the fitting of yet another oil pump, the second in 5 months. There’s swarf getting into the unit which then grinds itself to bits. Trouble is we’re still not sure where the stuff’s coming from. Answers on a postcard please to The Editor.
The shell is now finished as I write this and ‘Tin’ Rogers has been commissioned to spray it on the weekend of 10/11 June. He’s been given carte blanche on the design of the blue and yellow paint job so it’ll be interesting when it’s unveiled. The following two Sundays will then be spent seeing how well it goes. The first event on 18 June is the next round of the Larkspeed Championship so hopefully all will be well. Some catching up on the ANCC Championship is also needed. Too many people making hay while Howie’s away.
Big thanks go to Roy Heath for his many hours preparing the shell prior to us rebuilding it and allowing his garage to be cluttered up for the past three months with a half-built Mini. He’s now sunning himself in Crete and won’t actually see Heepy in painted state ‘til some time in the future.
Magazine fodder always welcome, so if you’ve been competing come and tell me or Petchy about it. Thanks again to this month’s subscribers.
