Beverley & District Motor Club

Lots of Beverley crews out on this event, 3 1/2 to be exact. Gav Smith let us down by entering under Selby, but Oggy flew the Beverley flag. Andy Beaumont/Danny Robinson wheeled the Escort RS 2000 out for another airing with Dave Bennett/Oliver Jopson providing more nostalgia in their ‘bouncing’ Mini. Petchy and T’Old Lad powered up the Estate Car to keep the serious contenders on their toes. Other competitors known to our own 12 car championship making an appearance were Alastair Crosby/Jason Turner from Selby in the ex-’Tin’ Rogers/Carl Briggs 309 Gti, Rob Thornley/Jon Binns from Buccaneer in their Mini Cooper and John Savage/Paul Rhodes in yet another Mini Clubman. More nostalgia than anyone can handle!

Starting from Armthorpe in Doncaster, Lindholme Motor Club put on a tough navigational route to keep competitor’s on their toes. It was a dual permit event incorporating a Clubman’s Rally along with the main event.

Carl Hawkins/David Campbell took the honours on the night in their Nova with Petchy and Potts being best of our bunch, taking 7th in class and 11th overall. Gav Smith and Oggy could have won, but a fail made them ‘best of the rest’ 4th in class and 12th overall. Rob Thornley/Jon Binns were 2nd Novice, 19th overall with Andy and Danny 4th Semi-Expert, 22 overall. Andy wasn’t very forthcoming with information on the night so I think it’s safe to assume all did not go well! It might be okay to approach him now though. John Savage/Paul Rhodes competed in the Clubman’s event and came in 2nd behind

Andy Bird/Plug Pulleyn.

Sadly Dave Bennett/Oliver Jopson didn’t complete the course. A dead engine following a water splash scuppered their night. I’ve had a word with them about it and hopefully it won’t happen again! Alastair Crosby/Jason Turner joined the ranks of DNF’s thanks to a broken gear linkage. I’d take it back to where they bought it if I was them!

Nice to see a healthy Road Rally scene again though.
