Elvington Stages Rally
York Motor Club
3 June 2000
After a long lay-off, Dave Twilton and Richard Vincent finally got the little beast back on the road. Now sporting a 1400cc 16 valve engine, de-seamed bodyshell and rebuilt rear end following their last indiscretion, Dave and Richard were using this event as a shakedown prior to tackling Eppynt.
Richard admitted to being a little nervous after such a long time out of the ‘hot seat’, but was looking forward to seeing what the car could do.
Come the day, the event sadly lasted one stage! Due to an engineering problem with the rear corner they wiped out on the last event, the near side rear hub assembly fell off towards the end of the first stage. This problem required Richard to retrace the stage on foot to recover the lost item (hey, rear hubs of this calibre don’t grow on trees!). One sobering thought from this incident, they were still fastest in their class on this stage!
Richard’s description of the new engine, "No heroics, it just went!". Hopefully, now he knows what it’s capable of, he might not be so nervous.
They’re now looking for another shake-down event. Book now to marshal on the Armstrong Massey, you just never know.
